Fighting Food Insecurity:
Action Against Hunger

Approximately 650,000 people in New Jersey face hunger every day. 175,000 of them are children. Part of what makes food insecurity so difficult to solve is that the underlying causes — poverty, unemployment, and inconsistent access to enough healthy food — are often deeply interconnected. 

That is why it takes a collective effort to end hunger. It takes public and political will. It takes widespread change.

Action Against Hunger has helped feed hungry people in New Jersey since 1991. The program was launched by the Borg family and their company, North Jersey Media Group, as a one-day food drive in response to needs identified from reports in the newspaper. Over the course of 28 years, the initiative grew to be the largest single-day food drive in the metropolitan area, serving more than 64 food pantries and over 40,000 families annually. 

Today, Action Against Hunger provides direct financial support to food banks and organizations throughout New Jersey that work to feed people and change the systems that cause food insecurity.
